Serenity Now! Getting to the Root of Stress

Serenity Now! Getting to the Root of Stress

None of us seek to be stressed, but more often then not it finds us; a car accident, unexpected bill, and your daughter’s boyfriend. We at AFM are no strangers to stress, and we are here help you navigate the difficult times.
It has been our experience that taking the appropriate steps early on makes all the difference in mitigating the effects of stress. However, hardly anyone comes to us seeking help for stress, instead patients come in with symptoms indicative of more serious problems; chest pains, shortness of breath, heart palpitations etc. They may think they are having a heart attack, and while it is a relief to find they are not, they may well be on there way to having one if they are not careful.
When this happens we never want to send the patient away with only a pat on the back and a couple of aspirin. Instead we are dedicated to helping our patients decipher their symptoms to find the underlying cause(s) of their stress (your son just got his license, college tuition due, etc).
Once the root of the stress has been located we explore treatment options. These options are all designed to promote long term solutions to stress management; non habit forming medications, cognitive behavioral therapy, life style modifications, stress reduction modalities, and herbal medications. All of these solutions help patients find relief in sustainable ways that have positive, immediate, and long term effects.
If you, or someone you know, could benefit from reducing the stress in their life, point them our way. We want to help you live the fullest life possible. So take a deep breath and give us a call, relief is on the way – well at least until the kids get home.

Why Influenza Vaccinations Are Important to Your Family’s Health

Why Influenza Vaccinations Are Important to Your Family’s Health According to the  Centers for Disease Control , anywhere between 151 and 156 million flu vaccines will be distributed this year within the United States, although not all of these doses will be used. And while this might be considered a large number, keep in mind that there are more than 316 million individuals living in this country, which means that less than 50% of the population will obtain a flu vaccine this year. Here at Advanced Family Medicine, many of our patients frequently express concern about the effectiveness of immunizations; perhaps because they received a flu vaccine in the past but still came down with the flu. On the other hand, some individuals consciously choose not to get vaccinated against the flu as they’re simply not concerned about acquiring it.
