Dr. Zabriskie Joins Advanced Family Medicine

Education and Training

Born in Prescott, Arizona in 1954, Dr. Zabriskie obtained her MD from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 1978. She then completed a 4 year residency program in Ob Gyn at Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, Arizona in 1982 and became Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Moving to Seattle in 1982, she worked as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington and participated in clinical research studies on pelvic infections in women. She also wrote several papers on the implications of pelvic infections in women.
However, her greatest enjoyment was in taking care of patients, so she moved into private practice in Kirkland in 1985. As the first female Ob Gyn at Evergreen hospital she has had a very successful and active practice. She participated in numerous quality assurance committees in the hospital and Evergreen Surgical Center over her years in practice and has contributed significantly to her professional community with her visionary ideas.
She founded a center for women which included nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and a naturopathic physician. She was responsible for helping start the nurse midwife program at Evergreen Hospital where midwives delivered babies with the supervision of the physician. Because of her deepening fascination with the role of the body/ mind connection to health and disease, she stepped away from private practice for about one year to further pursue energy healing techniques and travel with her daughter who was attending school in France at that time.

Philosophy

Dr. Zabriskie has always strongly believed in helping patients understand their own conditions and working with them to do everything possible to manage it or possibly even get rid of it. She has helped educate thousands of women about their own bodies and how to keep them healthy. There are times when the best therapy may be massage therapy or perhaps naturopathic evaluation or chiropractic care.
She believes in using wherever healing modality will work best for you in your particular circumstance. There are times when the physical body has developed a condition that requires something such as surgery, and if Dr. Zabriskie does need to take you to the operating room, she will help you prepare emotionally and in every way possible. Also, she strongly believes that if surgery is needed, it is best to do it using minimally invasive techniques, such as through tiny laparoscopic incisions or in some cases, with robotically assisted surgery. The recovery will be so much quicker if you have very small incisions to heal from. She will help direct you to the most proficient person to assist with those surgeries if they are necessary.
While she believes it is critical to eat in a healthy manner and exercise regularly, she came to realize how closely the body, mind and spirit work together. The burning desire to learn more about the body/mind connections prompted her to begin to deeply study the spiritual and energy issues relating to health and disease.  For the past 13 years she has also extensively educated herself in meditation techniques and energy healing methods. She is a well established teacher of meditation techniques and has taught classes through Evergreen Hospital’s education programs as well as on her own.  For more information about the specific meditation classes Dr. Zabriskie teaches, please visit her website at healingtohealth.com. And of course, feel free to speak to her directly about these classes if you are interested!

Why Influenza Vaccinations Are Important to Your Family’s Health

Why Influenza Vaccinations Are Important to Your Family’s Health According to the  Centers for Disease Control , anywhere between 151 and 156 million flu vaccines will be distributed this year within the United States, although not all of these doses will be used. And while this might be considered a large number, keep in mind that there are more than 316 million individuals living in this country, which means that less than 50% of the population will obtain a flu vaccine this year. Here at Advanced Family Medicine, many of our patients frequently express concern about the effectiveness of immunizations; perhaps because they received a flu vaccine in the past but still came down with the flu. On the other hand, some individuals consciously choose not to get vaccinated against the flu as they’re simply not concerned about acquiring it. Whatever your reasoning may be though, the importance of getting vaccinated against influenza this year cannot be understated. The flu seas...
